Up Next: "Terrorists are Congregating on SPI!"....?!?

The anonymous spooks who frequent the SPI Forum appear to be tireless in their efforts to destroy the tourism industry here. First it was “look how ugly we are! We need a color palette!” Now it is “look how dangerous our streets are! We need a curfew!”

Bullshit. All bullshit. If Jason Y. really loved the island he would shut that forum down; it is destructive and divisive and making us look bad to the online world.

I would question Jason's motives for his forum, which has only served to portray the Island in a very negative light. I have no explanation for why those "blithering conservatives" get under my skin, other than it is a visceral reaction to their lack of common sense and "holier than thou" attitude.

I'm ready for a good old uking session and sing-along now!

Sam - I would consider myself more of a conservative than not, and disagree with your generalization that conservatives are blithering, lack common sense and act in a "holier than thou" way. I am sure there are some that fall in that category but putting a blanket over all is counter-productive and keeps that negative spin going. For me if you don't react to the negative then it dies with you.

But ooops I am reacting to the negative therefore promoting negativism. Here let’s change the spin …

Facts are the panacea to negativity. Fact: the forum covers many topics. Fact: you can start any topic you choose. Fact: anyone can participate. Fact: you do not have to participate. Fact: when logical and well thought out comments are made, the tone is positive and we all win. Fact: when reactionary negative comments develop, more negative comments only keep it alive.

Here are some facts for me … I choose to live here. Don’t care what others say. Don’t think being an anonymous spook is a bad thing, but didn’t complain when that anonymity was revealed. Nor did I comment on the subject when it was hot on the forum because I frankly didn’t have factual answers only emotional feelings of why I think I have a right to be anonymous or not. I don’t care what color a business owner wants to paint his business. Know the streets are safe. Know that crime isn’t rampant. Know that public art would be a refreshing addition to the island. Know that a curfew wouldn’t help the pocket problems. One last fact: I don't buy into the pot stirrers posts because their post is simply there to get a reactions - positive or negative - more negative than positive. Oh my, I haven’t written this much in a long time – looking like Mr. Will

Well it does look like Jason has his own agenda where the forum is concerned. I stopped contributing since there is little practical, actionable imput there.

I am not defending comments on the forum, but I have read these comments elsewhere online. So they are not exclusive to the forum. Personally, I don't see why anyone should be surprised by negativity or lack of cooperation in getting anything done. It has been the status quo on the Island for years.

Anyway, just my "holier than thou" thoughts.

Sincerely, a "blithering conservetive"

Yeah, I did get some traffic on the "blithering" thing. I deserved a bunch of it ... but don't get me wrong, I am quite conservative myself in many regards, especially with money, rights, freedoms, and lower business taxes.

I think you know what I meant. When I ask somebody to prove a need for a curfew or paint colors, I get the same broken record stuck on "Because I told you so!" Oh, excuse me, sounds mighty scientific there, Bubba.

So all kinds of people and the point is to love the family and be happy. Gosh knows, with all these anonymous tricksters on Jason's Forum, I could be insulting my own neighbors, who I really like. It just ain't healthy.

No harm Sam, I laughed more than anything. I think the question of a curfew sets the tone for weather or not SPI wants to encourage family tourism. I am personally against it as the town's primary industry is tourism.

BTW read the article I sent you, it makes me smile!

Well, it is an ugly and divisive forum and sadly I probably helped make it worse at times. After getting "because I said so" response on curfews I suggested that the curfew should be for adults. It actually would make more logical sense, however, it wasn't a serious suggestion. My point seemed to go over several peoples heads.
My worst mistake, however, was my post on what you can't speak of. I am frustrated because their are some things Jason doesn't want on there for one reason or another. Whether it is too negative or whatever. If the forum is to have value I think even negative things should be open for discussion. I understand that means tourists may see some ugliness. I wish it was possible to screen that somehow but I'm sure it isn't. Also, the whole public/private art thing, and the "can of worms" we don't want to reopen. I am sure that is somewhat true. Still as someone who hasn't been here very long doesn't always know what "can of worms "are even out there. Finally, and this part esp for Sam, I did also go a bit with other subjects that you can't talk about here. Yes, you can talk about anything. However, I would strongly recommend that no one ever has a serious thread in the forum or anywhere for that matter about gambling or illegal aliens or drugs. A very short example. A certain ex-restaurant owner is also widely connected to at least some slots. Do I think he would probably send a leg breaker after me?? Doubtful. However, if someone seriously outlined the many 777 joints in say several Valley towns, that might not be wise. If, someone further, were to publicly in the forum call out all area Alderman, Commish Court, Police, Judges, DA, etc by name and demand to know why nothing is done??? Well I would strongly urge that no one do that !!! For their is a LOT of money associated with these types of activities. Anyway, I shouldn't have let my frustration with the first two examples let me start that post. It was a bad post all around. I think I will mainly set on the sidelines a bit.
LOL to my surprise, even an innocent question about Christmas trees has now gone to almost a second page on the forum. Sad they won't use the trees.

Sorry it's been a bummer experience for you too, Ray. But it's Friday! Let's all do the SPI Limbo!

The absolute funniest suggestion about kiddie curfews was that the curfew should be between 8:30 in the morning until 3:30 in the afternoon.

That was meant tongue-in-cheek, folks, and I can't take credit for it. Have a glorious, wonderful Friday in Paradise!

Hi Everybody,
We're going to get a small group together in October to talk about how and why the SPI Forum should operate in the best interests of the Island. Watch the forum for an announcement. Call me anytime about your concerns. Thanks, Jason Yetter 433-664two
