"Post Scripts" Response

This is a letter I just sent to the editor of the PI/SPI Press:

At last! Mr. Rasmussen and I have found common ground!

As he semi-eloquently states in this week's "Post Scripts":

"The Valley ought to be studied by students ... it is a perfect example of what happens when one party reigns supreme over a long time.... power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

The Republicans have controlled both houses of congress as well as the Executive branch (and some might reasonably argue they own the Judicial branch as well) for waaaaay too long. Duane and I (apparently) agree! It is past time to let the loyal opposition (um, that would be Democratic Party, I believe) have a voice in how this country is run. Based on results of recent polls, it is clear that the Republicans have failed to impress the majority of the US population with their lies, their pre-emptive war gone bad and their blatant disregard for the Geneva Conventions and our own Constitution. "Foleygate" is just one more illustration of how the Republicans holier-than-thou moral values stance is... well, all hat and no cattle.

Elections are coming up and it is time to clean house. Both houses, actually.

Thank you Mr. R for stating it so plainly. Your columns usually just irritate me so it is nice to discover that we actually agree on something. Throw the bums out! Vote Democrat!

Sincerely,
Lucinda Wierenga

Look, neither party is perfect, actually far from it. I agree w/ Pedro maybe the elected Democrats in the valley are totally ineffective. I am conservative, which should tell you that I am not totally satisfied with the way things have been run. I see no difference between the Republicans and the Democrats when it comes to fiscal responsibility.

The war in Iraq may have been started without having all the facts, but leaving now would leave the door open for terrorists to attack again as all they would have to do is wait untill we give up. It is no wonder these leaders in the Middle East like the Democratic party better, they leave them alone. I feel that in the interest of national security, the Republican party is still the best choice.

Now for "Foleygate", the bum is out as he should be. As Democratic party of "tolerance", you should be ashamed of yourselves. Attacking only Republican members of congress that are gay. After all Nancy Pelosi often martches in the San Francisco gay pride parade along side a prominent leader of NAMBLA, the North American Man/boy Love Association.

PLEASE clean up your own house first before pointing fingers at others.

Just a few of my thoughts.

Thanks- MLeahy

Please give my words a closer read.

Foley is just a sick man who needs help, and I sincerely hope he gets it. The people I truly despise are the ones in power who preach moral values (which in some cases are blatantly homophobic) out of one side of their mouths while hypocritically allowing - for political reasons alone - this sick man to stay in a position where he could continue to abuse his power long after he should have been removed.

This cynical hypocrisy would be appalling in either party as it tends to reinforce the widely-held notion that the people in charge are far more concerned with holding onto power than with governing wisely.

Anonymous, be brave, i cloud have blogged as anonymous but choose not to hide behind ambiguity. I don't know which "reference" item you attack me personally on but I did say that NEITHER party is perfect or close to it.

I can give specifics can you? Nancy Pelosi did march in the San Francisco "Gay Pride Parade" #31 while Harry Hay (NAMBLA) was #33. Public record fact. Is that who you want as a potential Speaker of The House? (your answer will define you) If we cut and run from Iraq, do you think the Islamo Facist Muslims will play nice and not attack or continue to call for our destruction? I did SAY that Foley SHOULD be out, and he is. Sandy, you can't rehab someone that sick (my opinion).

Here is one for you, about ten years ago a former co-worker of mine, a major in the Air Force was dis-honorably discharged for adultry. As an officer in the military you loose all benefits including pension for commiting adultry. It happened.. The President of the United States of America is the Commander and Chief of the military (SENIOR OFFICER). What happened to Bill Clinton?

Why argue? Be logical...

Thoughts to ponder....Please DO VOTE, don't waste your right to do so. If you don't, you have no right to complain. Do yourself a favor though, please VOTE with your conscience, don't VOTE strictly along political lines as I don't think either party has all the answers.

When I was younger I was a Democrat, believe it or not. I was even a precent judge, how many challengers out there can say that? I just got more conservative as I got older. We all do to some extent, we take fewer risks based on experience.... conservative.

The country is in a perilous position due to action/inaction with both parties. I never VOTED straight ticket, actually I know of few who have been that lazy not to look at issues for what they are.

Thank you for reading and please VOTE with your conscience.

A wise person once said:

"A young person who is a conservative has no heart; an older person who is a liberal has no sense".

young person - still attached to the cord, no experience, no history, too much peer pressure, no common sense, full of the street, pills, etc., no ed, lots of heart, for the wrong reasons.....
older person - not happy did not detach from the cord earlier, lot of experience, lot of history, good, bad, and evil, but lot of common sense, filling up mental health, with doctors getting burned out, no peers, as all dead, or filled up with pills, still with lot of heart, wishing for everything missed out when young person, ed, and then you die.....

Well, I guess it depends on your definition of "sense" ...

I suppose you could call this old liberal a "happy idiot with heart" and I wouldn't be offended one iota. Call me a smart, selfish asshole who preys upon the weaknesses of the less-advantaged and I would say "don't you dare call me a Republican." ;-)

MLeahy - if you aren't going to vote straight ticket, please let me know which Democrat you intend to cross party lines for next month -- and I will tell you which Republican I am voting for (here's a hint - it will be the one running against Judge Hinojosa.)

And you can bet your bottom dollar I will be voting my conscience -- not my wallet. May you do the same.

Lucinda,

Aren't those mosttly democrats running the political show down there. Or, perhaps, "sideshow" is a better term for the democrat political shenanigans in Cameron county.

Hi Sandy, well at least you got one in three right (get it "right") ;-) the smart part that is. That seems to be a good Democratic strategy, use 1/3 truth and create the rest. I don't always vote straight ticket as I am conservative, not necessarily Republican though they typically are the same.

Now for your question, I will be voting for Grandma Strayhorn. She seems to be more fiscally conservative than Mr. Perry who has made a mess of education by doing nothing but push for un-necessary tax increases. That brings me to toll roads, dead set against them and giving control of them to foreign interests.

What do you think should be done about North Korea? I mean other than talk which has not worked for the past fourteen years through Democrat & Republican presidencies. That should tell you that either both parties have been effective or sometimes, action not verbage solves problems.

Thanks- MLeahy

BTW Anonymous, sounds like personal experience speaking, you have my sympathy. I have no regrets regarding my past as it was a learning process. I am not that old, I have plenty of peers and friends on both sides of the fence. Some of us can agree to disagree as logical adults. Thank God I don't have ED (ACLU, sorry for the use of GOD). I don't live in the past as I can't change it. Try looking ahead at what you can do to make things better with a non selfish adjenda. I am very much alive inside and out without pills. We all die, but what will your legacy be, what will you be remembered for?

Where did everyone go? No rebuttal? I did not expect the EXTREME LEFT to give in so easily....Please respond with facts, not rhetoric as I would love to continue the conversation. BTW I am surprised that nobody wants to teach the "Right" the proper way to handle North Korea. That will not serve your "spin doctors"... I mean candidates well come election.
