A Life Well-Spent

Wags is tired. Too tired to eat. Too tired to walk and almost too tired to drink water. When he does manage to get a few drops down it wants to come right back up.

I have spend much of this 4th of July cradling him in my arms and telling him what a good dog he is. But I have also found some comfort in going through old photos of that old puppy with the people and animals he most enjoyed hanging with. Sadly, I can find no photos of him with Amazin' Walter or Raybo - both of whom I am confident would appear on Wags' list of favorite people. Anyway, I have created a slideshow of my favorite Wags photos... some of which are in semi-sorta chronological order.

I did this for me. But you can see it too, if you like. Right here.

Thanks, Cin
The photos brought back many memories. You and Wags are lucky to have each other. Dad

Sandy, if Wags is having trouble drinking water, you might try giving him water with a sports water bottle. It helped an old dog of mine once. Dang, I wished that dogs lived longer.

the sports bottle is a good idea - I was trying a turkey baster and that didn't go over very well at all...

I just got off the phone with Dr. Kellogg from the PI Animal clinic and he thinks Wags might have picked up a bug from Peach, who has had the runs ever since she got here. He definitely had his nose up her butt so this seems entirely plausible to me. I will take her in this afternoon and the Doc says he can give me something to try on Wags.

Not ready to give up on him just yet...

As your two-timing dog sitter (since I dog-sat twice for ya!), how's the old fella doing? I hope it went good at the vet ...

Awww....
I am happy to report that while not yet out of the weeds, Wags is still snoozing at my feet. Last night I was able to get him to eat a little bit of hamburger and he even growled - faintly and not terribly convincingly - at Peach when she got too close.

Peach utterly charmed Dr. Kellogg who agrees we have to get the digestive system problem fixed before taking her in to get spayed. It should not be too difficult to keep her from any romantic trysts for a few more days (and I sure hope that is all it takes for the meds she is on to do the trick.)
