stupid water district
I received my bill from the Laguna Madre Water District on March 20th.
The bill states it will be past due - with a fine of just under $4 added to the bill - if not paid by March 23.
How do they continue to get away with this scam?

Our water entity charges $4 to read the meter. So for about a year I went out and read the meter. I’d get my bill and it’d say “Incorrect reading” $4 charge. I took a different tactic. Our water was pretty cheap so I just thought, “Screw the bill,” and I sent in $100 a month for a few months. After a few months of credits on my bill, I got a warning that if I didn’t stop overpaying, I’d be fined. These ‘illities guys are no fun.
Usually they come out and just turn off the water without any notice. I was in the shower when that happened. You're lucky to even get a late notice.

Ah...the utilities and postal service are the two things I don't miss about living there.
Sandy, if you're only getting three days notice to pay your bill, something is wrong and you need to contact customer service Minnie Mata. "Gulfless," if you really got warned for overpaying your bill, let me know and I will make sure customers are allowed to prepay by incorporating it in our policy. Also, when you pay by the due date, you are getting a discount off the gross rate. It is not a late fee. All constructive criticism is welcome at our board of directors' meeting every second and fourth wednesday of the month at the office on Port Road in PI beginning at 6 p.m. Coming up in April are revisions to ethics policy, professional services policy, new fiscal year budget workshops and reviews of capital improvement program. Any constructive input from the public is always greatly appreciated.
