New Artificial Reef to be created off South Padre

GALVESTON — The old Texas Clipper, which for years ferried students from Texas A&M at Galveston around the world, will be sunk off the coast of South Padre Island this summer, a state official said.

The 61-year-old ship will be used as an artificial reef to attract fish, divers and fishermen......

Thanks, sf, that's good news for us offshore mosquito fleet who are tired of going out 2-3 hours for some tourist snapper. The Texas Clipper will be in 134 feet of water only about 17 nautical miles from the jetty - our jetty! That's about half the trip. The folks up in her home port, Galveston, are a little miffed about that ... it's a huge prize.
